Making A Deck

1. Pick a theme of your deck so that you know what strategy you want and what kinds of cards to add.
2. Add Monster cards. In Most Decks 20-22 Monsters can be a good number.
3.Add Spells. Most decks should only run about 10-11 spell cards. Make sure the spells you add relate to your theme.
4.Add Traps. Like spells you should only run 10-11 of these and make sure they relate to your theme.
5. Balance the deck. You should generally have only 40-42 cards in a deck. Make sure you do not have too many or too little of the types of cards(monster,spell,trap)
6.Staple Cards. A staple card is a card that is a must have in any and every deck
The current staple cards are
Dark Hole, Heavy Storm,Mystical Space Typhoon, Mirror Force, Solemn Judgment,Solemn Warning,Monster Reborn

Optional Cards
Smashing Ground,Seven tools of the bandit,Call Of The Haunted,Prohibiton

Fiendish Chain isnt rly a staple, its a continuous trap, so its easy to deal with

If i may put some input onto the thread. I don't mean to spam or flame but i see a few thing wrong with your "How to build a deck" Instructions.

actually i worded that wrong. The skeleton is good but in order for newer players to get how to build a good deck, i would advise going into detail. Following this guide would confuse alot of newer players i think.

Very true. Just because they are good to have (And Expensive as hell,) doesn't mean that they are staples. Most staples are easy to come by now'n'days. Mirror Force, Solemn Warning, Solemn Judgement, Mystical Space Typhoon, Dark Hole, Monster Reborn and Heavy Storm are the Staples. Everything esle is what's known as a Semi-Staple

squirtle is right, usually staples are affordable cards, like now veiler is in super so some may consider veiler a staple.

Meny decks it may be a staple, but again there are some decks that don't want to use it. For instance, i wouldn't use Pot of Acarice in a Lightsworn deck, as it defeats the purpose. A Staple is a card that can be used in ANY Deck, regardless.

My main Deck is my Chaos Dragons which has won me 2 tournaments already. I also own several other decks, including an Nurse Burn, A Spellcaster lock down, Agent/Fairy beat Down, and an original build. I have won several tournaments and have been to regionals several times. I am a certified deck master, and attempting judge. I happen to know a lot about the game too! > Sad

You've never heard of Chaos Dragons Light? It was introduced in the new Dragon Structure Deck, Dragons Collide.
